This debate has been going on for close to two thousand years and has caused a Split in Christianity. The majority of Christians choose to worship on Sunday while a handful of denominations worship on the Saturday. It is generally agreed that the Sabbath is a day of mental and physical break with a distinctly redemptive meaning closely related to the everlasting gospel.

In many countries calendars begin on a Monday and therefore the seventh day of the week becomes Sunday. According to Gregorian calendar Sunday is the seventh and last day of the week. No century in the Gregorian calendar starts on a Sunday, whether its first year is ’00 or ’01. The Hebrew calendar follows a seven-day weekly cycle, which runs concurrently but independently of the monthly and annual cycles.

The names for the days of the week are simply the day number within the week. In Hebrew, these names may be abbreviated using the numerical value of the Hebrew letters. 1 . The names of the days of the week are modeled on the seven days mentioned in the Creation story. For example, Genesis 1:5 » „ And there was evening and there was morning, one day». One day also translates to first day or day one.
